Potential work this weekend – National Grid site

I’m getting in touch with an update on National Grid’s new electricity supply point off the A22/Eastbourne Road junction near Little Horsted.

As you know, we’ve been preparing to build two new substations at the site, with construction due to start in 2023. As part of the enabling work before construction, some vegetation has to be removed to protect dormice, and install special fences to keep newts safe away from the site.

Natural England that they may issue us with a licence tomorrow to remove the vegetation, and it would need to be cleared by the end of May to keep dormice safe. All vegetation removed from National Grid’s site will be offset through future planting.

Working days and hours

The conditions of the licence would require the National Grid to start clearance this weekend, so work may beginon Sunday 29 May and finishing by Tuesday 31 May. If the work proceeds, working hours are due to be 10am to 4pm on Sunday, and between 7am and 7pm on Monday and Tuesday.

There is a chance these dates and working hours may change
